31 Days of BPD
The relationship I have with my family depends on what parts of my family you’re talking about. My mum, brother and other immediate family are incredible and we never argue or fight. Mum is my best friend and the person I tell everything to.
Other members of my family however could be considered to have brought on our worsened my disorder. I have a a rocky relationship with some and a non-existant relationship with many.
As I’ve mentioned before, my mum was adopted and therefore many of my family aren’t genetically related to me. Therefore, it’s always been a firm belief of mine that biology doesn’t mean everything; which makes it much easier to leave behind the blood relatives that need to be left behind. You can choose your family and you don’t have to keep them in your life if you’re much better off and happier without them.
On the flip side, most of the closest people to me happen to be my adopted family. They’re the people that are there for me, always have been and always will be. They’re the people that haven’t betrayed or hurt myself or the people closest to me or left when things got tough.
Every family has fall outs and diagreements, but if your uncle or grandad or whoever else are arseholes, get rid of them.
