Do any of you feel as though you have a purpose in life? That you were put here to do something really important?
I’m not a religious person and I don’t really believe in fate. I think that we make our own lives how we want them to be and we have full control over that. I have a tattoo actually which reads the Shakespeare quote ‘It’s not in the stars to hold our destiny, but in ourselves‘ and that’s something I truly believe in.
But there’s also a part of me that thinks there is a purpose. Whether or not I decide to follow that purpose is up to me, but it’s there.
I might have been dealt a difficult hand, but I can do so much with my knowledge and experiences because of that.
All I’m saying – is watch this space.
Amazing I have a draft of a blog on ‘purpose’ Will enjoy reading yours at leisure.

Snap ! This came up time and time again with different people in therapy and i think part of the reason why is that with mental health disease we question the very reason for our existence which naturally leads to ‘purpose’. I do believe, in a non spiritual way, that our true purpose in life is to find something of meaning to ‘us’ and contribute either big or small. My top line mantra is ‘leave the world a little better off for my existence during my tenure here’ !

I can truly relate to your thoughts. I believe in God, but while He can support me, I have to follow my own path. It’s godo tha tyou believe you have full control over your life. I am still working on this.

I believe I have full control, I’m just not always sure I’m strong enough to take it. We’re all still working on it, we’re only human.

I used to believe I had a purpose. I don’t know what my purpose is anymore…

I have had to give up work as my mental health was being affected so much by it. It’s hard to know what my purpose is now. I know my job shouldn’t define me but I have always had a job until very recently so my confidence is at an all time low.

As much of a cliche as it is, that means the only way is up doesn’t it. Things are never as bad as we make them in our own heads. If you ever need a chat, my email is on my contact page. Hope you’re not too cool wherever you are in the north, Leeds is ridiculous and it definitely isn’t helping my mood that’s for sure!

Very true and thank you. I might take you up on the offer. It is freezing where I am in the north!!!

Whenever I see that Steve Jobs quote, it reminds me of this speech he gave at Stanford University (USA): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF8uR6Z6KLc

Well done! Intended or not that is a great piece of marketing for your blog….all the questions without answers, then, “watch this space”.
I think the answers often come from the obvious places that usually we don’t want them to come from. We over complicate things!

i would like to believe that we all have a purpose…im the last person to be called religious…but i want to believe that there is a purpose…if people go through extreme pain and if their life takes few turns too rough and patchy..then there must be a purpose..a reason… or maybe thats something i need to keep the hope up when im low…
